TradTruss flat pack porches
‘IKEA’ may have become an eponymous term for self-assembly furniture, but until now there has not really been an equivalent for any form of building structure. Now TradTruss together with other associate companies in the Benfield ATT Group, like SolidLox and Easy Timber Frame. is at the forefront of designing and delivering pre-fabricated buildings. TradTruss front porches and entrance frames are delivered in knock-down form as flat pack components for easy on-site assembly and building erection by competent local jobbing builders and experienced DIY’ers. Until now “Do It Yourself” kits for protection of front, side, rear and French doors has only been associated with very simple ‘drill and screw’ IKEA style cantilevered canopies. With the advent of TradTruss porches and entrance frames, this is no longer true. Backed by many years’ experience of designing, manufacturing and erecting complex house and other designs, TradTruss pre-cuts and pre-packs the components for your entrance porch, storm lobby, or entrance frame and delivers this to you ready for instant assembly on your accurately constructed base.
Preparing Your Entrance Porch Foundation
Since all TradTruss self-assembly ‘kits’ are manufactured specifically for each individual order, unlike IKEA a standard range of suggested foundation bases is included with the design drawings and assembly instructions. These are sent to you on acceptance of your order so that you can prepare and accurately construct your porch foundation base while you are waiting for the flat pack porch kit components to be delivered.
Designed for DIY Porch Assembly
All standard Green Oak and Douglas Fir porch and entrance frames have been specially designed to include expert ‘know how’ for easy on-site erection and assembly by most competent DIY’ers. What is more, unlike most other products on offer in the national UK market place, they come with really detailed and illustrated assembly instructions. These aim to give you the skills and capabilities to create a really ‘professional built’ Oak porch, Douglas Fir entrance frame, or any combination from your choice of timbers and creative designs.
Outstanding Porch Quality
All TradTruus front porches and entrance frames are manufactured from premium quality timbers, leading brand roof coverings and other components. Green Oak from UK and European forests, Douglas Fir and Larch from home grown woodlands, Canadian Lumber Standard (CLS) accurately milled to fine tolerances and round edge finish for safety, then vacuum pressure treated with the best anti- fungal and decay treatments available anywhere. These highest quality materials are then lovingly handcrafted by experienced tradespeople, loose assembled to check for accuracy and fit in the factory, and then packed in coded bundles to make on-site erection and fitting ‘a breeze; for anyone who can read a simple drawing and who has at least some understanding of construction.
Incredible Porch Value
Many of the front entrance canopies and porches advertised nationwide on the web in the UK are made from low cost plastic, GRP, vinyl, lightweight alloy/ steel, or similar materials. TraTtruss now offers you the chance to upgrade to something much better. As noted above, TradTruss porches and entrance frames are manufactured from the best materials , hand crafted to deliver higher quality, and made from large, truly impressive timbers to be more substantial, highly durable, and very long lasting. They just represent incredibly good value for money.
Truly Attractive Porch & Entrance Frames
Unfortunately, possibly due to many original house designs lacking proper protection for entrance doors, a rash of low cost – even cheap and nasty – plastic, GRP, vinyl and similar entrance porches has been spawned nationwide across the UK. In some measure this has also been due to the relaxation of planning laws and ‘permitted development’ rights enabling these to be built with little or no concern for the overall appearance and impact they have on the individual houses, or even the neighbourhood. The primary concern of the householders who have erected them has been to protect their entrance doors. Encouraged by the mass utilitarian uPVC conservatory / sun room / greenhouse fabricators, they have lacked the option of choosing high quality designs and structural alternatives. Now TradTruss enables them to make better and more durable choices, with designs more reflective and evocative of the standing and quality of their homes and the families within.
Really Robust Entrance Porch Structures
TradTruss entrance porches have evolved from a different basis than most of its low cost uPVC and similar competitors. Its’ roots are in full scale construction of houses, flats, office blocks, health, education and similar buildings. Consequently the materials used are the same as would be specified and included in such structures. Heavy duty 150x150 posts, deep rafters to receive roof insulation if required (e.g. in storm porches), purpose cut green oak and other structural timbers where required, properly sarked roofs, tiles, slates and other coverings the same as are used on permanent, long term durable buildings.
Most Competitive Porch Prices
Because TradTruss entrance frames, canopies, and porches are designed and manufactured within an ISO (International Standards Organisation) certified organisation, all procedures and processes are rigorously quality controlled throughout their production and delivery process. A ‘Continuous Product Improvement’ regime constantly monitors, adapts and incorporates even small changes to minimise waste of time and materials and deliver the most efficiently made structure to you. These progressive improvements and efficiencies mean that you can be sure that your TradTruss classical entrance frame, traditional porch, or contemporary canopy is the most competitively priced, value for money structure available today.
Your New Porch Entrance
… will transform the appearance and approach to your front door. The entrance to your home is one of the most important features of the house. It can be flat, plain and dull, or it can be exciting, inviting, and evocative. The way you choose to protect your front entrance, with a simple, functional canopy, a period classical porch, or a traditional, medieval style (amongst others) can dramatically change the character of your home.
The good old ‘British Weather’ has always been something of a joke for many people in the UK. But with climate change apparently having an effect and making everyone nationally more and more subject to snow, rain, wind and storms, robust storm porches and other forms of protection for the front, side and rear doors of most of Britain’s houses is becoming very important. Although there are still many flat, unprotected front doors, today some form of door canopy is more or less essential. Not only will this protect callers to your home from the elements, it will also improve the look of your home. A good door canopy, porch or larger entrance frame will protect you and your visitors from the rain, snow, sun and (depending on design) the wind. It will also prevent your main entrance door from becoming damp and weather beaten.
TradTruss caters for a wide range of home owners, offering every possible style, for every possible taste.
Fitting Your Entrance Porch
When it comes to fitting our TradTruss structures, you should have no problems at all. Simple to understand fitting instructions for all products are available illustrating the ease of the fitting process. This means you can get the job done safely within a one or two days – even a few hours for smaller structures.
Create YOUR Perfect Entrance Porch Design
As already noted, the addition of a porch to a property can have a dramatic effect in terms of the overall look of the property. However, not all porches are designed well so a key element to the success of any porch project is the design.
The TradTruss range of standard porches and entrance frames has been specially developed over the years to suit almost all types and periods of property. From traditional medieval cottage and church porches, through classical Georgian, Victorian and ‘New England’ porticos, to Commonwealth and contemporary raised verandas and ‘stoops’. Each can be provided with a number of different external features, from simple open bracketed or post and beam arrangements, to part and fully enclosed ‘storm’ porches and boot lobbies. These can be clad in many different materials, like brickwork to match in with existing walls, or matching render, your preferred timber/s, or even slate, tile, or cedar shingle cladding. Windows too, if required, can be made to match in with the style of your property. Your design should aim to avoid looking like a little box that has unceremoniously been stuck on the front of the house rather than a fully integrated porch.
The importance of YOUR Porch Entrance
If you live in a newish property, then hopefully the architect or other person responsible for the design of your house will have gone to great lengths to ensure that the porch is in keeping with the rest of the building. If you are adding a new porch entrance to an original building, then even more care should be taken to get the scale, balance and appearance of this right so as to properly enhance the aesthetic look of your home.
A good entrance porch is one that looks like it was built with the house so try to keep this in mind whenever you consider adding a porch to your home.
Planning Permission for Porches
Do bear in mind that whilst many porches fall within permitted development and do not require planning permission, there are a number of conditions that need to be met. Also that in many cases you may require plans for building regulations approval. See our separate section on this here.
